I have a subscription, why can't I log in on M-W.com?

That depends what you have a subscription to. Currently, we offer the following subscriptions:

  • The Word of the Day email newsletter. This is a free email newsletter that you may sign up for at any time. While there is an option to sign up for the emails when you create a Merriam-Webster user log-in account, you are not required to create a user log-in account in order to sign up for our mailing list. Therefore, if you can't log in on Merriam-Webster.com or reset your password, it's likely that you never registered an account.
  • The Merriam-Webster Unabridged website. This is a subscription website that offers ad-free access to our Unabridged Dictionary, Collegiate Dictionary, Medical Dictionary, and Collegiate Thesaurus. If you have a subscription to the Unabridged, you will need to log in on the Unabridged log-in page, here: https://unabridged.merriam-webster.com/subscriber/login. Your Unabridged log-in credentials will not be recognized on Merriam-Webster.com, which uses a separate user log-in system.
  • Merriam-Webster Dictionary app subscriptions. We offer various subscription options in the mobile Merriam-Webster Dictionary app. These subscriptions do not require you to register a user log-in account. The app subscription is linked to the app store account used to purchase it, not to a Merriam-Webster account.  As a result, it is possible to have an active app subscription without having a user log-in account with Merriam-Webster.
