Why can't I log in?/Why isn't my email recognized?

Modified on Thu, 17 Mar, 2022 at 5:02 PM

We added the user log-in feature to our iOS and Android apps in late 2019 and early 2020. Even if you have an app subscription or have purchased the premium app, you will need to have registered an account since this update in order to have a valid log-in. Creating an account is free and does not affect your existing subscriptions or purchases. If your email address is not recognized, it does not mean that any purchases you may have are inactive -- it simply means that you haven't registered a free account yet. Please see this article for a more in-depth explanation of the differences between your Merriam-Webster account and your app subscription or premium purchase. If you find that you are seeing ads in the app even though you have an active ad-removal subscription, please see this article.

If you know that you have successfully registered a Merriam-Webster account in the app or on our website, you might need to reset your password. You can do so here: https://www.merriam-webster.com/forgot-password or on the Log in page in the app.
