Creating a Merriam-Webster Account

Modified on Tue, 4 Mar at 4:07 PM

To log in to our free website, Merriam-Webster.com, you will first need to register a user log-in account. (This account can also be used to log in to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary mobile app and sync your saved words!)

To register your account, go to the registration page: https://www.merriam-webster.com/register. Enter a valid email address, a unique username, and a password. Click "Register." A confirmation email will then be sent to the email address provided. Follow the link in the confirmation email to activate your Merriam-Webster user log-in account.

That's it! Some common issues you might encounter: If you attempt to register a new account and get an error message saying that your email address is invalid, please make sure that (1) you've typed your email address correctly and (2) there are no extra spaces before or after your email address in the "Email" field. If you get an error message saying that an account already exists with the email address you are trying to use to register, you should try resetting your password instead of creating a new account.
