Why is a word defined on Merriam-Webster.com but not in the app?

Modified on Fri, 21 Mar at 2:39 PM

The Merriam-Webster App Dictionary defines the current, active vocabulary of American English, and is continuously updated with the newest words and meanings. Words that are rare, or that are have limited current use, are only included in the Unabridged Dictionary, which is not available in the app.

Some of these Unabridged words do appear on Merriam-Webster.com, to a limited extent. Full access to the Unabridged Dictionary, however, is only available via the subscription website, https://unabridged.merriam-webster.com/.  The Unabridged Dictionary is currently not included among the additional references available through an in-app subscription, nor is there a separate Unabridged app.
